We are deeply concerned about the potential genocide that is going on in the El-Fasher region of Sudan. Since April 2023, Sudan has been experiencing a very brutal civil war involving two warring factoins–namely, the RSF and the SAF.
According to credible reports, there is serious evidence that the RSF committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and even acts of genocide.
This is highly reminiscent of the darfur genocide of the early 21st century where Janjaweed and ‘arab’ militias committed a genocide against the Masalit, Fur and other nilosarahan-speaking ethnic groups.
Most of what-were janjaweed militias make up the RSF today. And unfortunately, similar patterns have been noted today.
In January 2025, the US state department recognized that the RSF was indeed committing a genocide against minority ethinic groups, namely the Masalit in the darfur region of Sudan.
But ever since October 27, 2025, existing risks have increased tremendously. This is because on that date, one of the biggest regions in Sudan, and the biggest in Darfur–El-Fasher– has fallen into the hands of the RSF as the SAF retreated. Since then, more than 2000 civilians were slaughtered mercilessly at the hands of the RSF. . Many were forced to dig their own graves, to be buried alive. Women and children were indiscriminately raped. Followingly, videos of horrific atrocities started circulating.
These videos have left the world shocked and horrified. The speed and scale of these atrocities underscore the need for action.
